Half-Broke Horses by Jeanette Walls

Judy chose the book and hosted the meeting.

Judy developed a timeline of Lily Casey Smith and posted it on her family room wall. We enjoyed delicious food, complete with "Heart Healthy Apple Crisp"!

Judy's research revealed the following about the author, Jeanette Walls. She was born in 1960 to Rose Mary and Rex Walls in Phoenix, AR. She was a gossip columnist for MSNBC and wrote and published her memoir The Glass Castle in 2005. Paramount Pictures bought the film rights for this book and Jennifer Lawrence will play Jeanette.

In 2009, Jeanette wrote her first novel, Half-Broke Horses, based on the colorful life of her maternal grandmother, Lily Casey Smith. In June 2013, Walls released her newest novel, The Silver Star. Jeanette currently lives in Culpepper, VA.

Judy had members read quotes from the book and said she matched the quotes to each of us. We read our quotes and discussed them. The quotes included some of the following topics: women's career choices, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness - Balderdash!", suicide, getting used to luxuries which then become necessities, "Life's too short to worry about what other people think", and more!

Everyone liked the book, some more than others.
